Lesson 8 No Hearts or No Brains
Dialoge:
Hellen and Dick are talking about the privious article.
Hellen says:I don't understand how people can think Doctor Kevorkian is doing the right thing.
Dick says:Well, helping people die with a dignity is not that bad,isn't it?
She asks:"Don't you know where there's life,there's hope?"
He says:Come on,be realistic.Those people who want to die are suffering.It's better that they go quickly and painlessly.
Hellen says:All you men have no hearts.
And he says:All you women have no brains.
P: by heart,at heart
B: We teach our children to remember/memorize their telephone numbers by heart.
B: Peter's really a very kind of man at heart.
P: Burce was simply making an example of sentence,but anyway, I am very very happy.
P: I was beaten up again.
B: To beat one's brains means to think very very hard and long about something. For example, I stayed up all night and beat my brains, but I counldn't think of the answer.
B: How much is one and/plus one?
P: I see , finaly,after about five hours ,I got the answer.That's 王.
B: In his previous movie,Bruce Willis was much better than in this one.
B: I read an intersting article in this magazine yesterday.
P: I still have several articles to buy.
B: An understanding teacher can help his problem students.
P: We can also say that young man is very understanding,that's why Marry loves him so much.
P: understandding= considerate
P: And also there is another word that means the same.That's thoughful.That's a good one.
P: I like you very much,you've been so understanding,so considerate...
B: To my understanding/knowledge,Kangaroos live only in Australia.
P: If you don't have a rat Bruce or if you don't have a kangaroo,you can put it this way,try to catch a rat and then get a bag for it,and he'll be a kangaroo.
B: This is Peter's humor.
P: Join is learning English.He's doing the right thing.He knows Englsih is an international/a universal language.
P: So we can say to our friends.If they begin to learn English,we can tell them:You're doing the right thing.
P: Don't be afraid of making mistakes while speaking English.
B: Be thick-skinned and don't worry what people say about your english.
B: Well,I like that one.
P: Bruce,you've been working too hard.You worked day and night.You got only one hour for a sleep.It's very dangrous,you're doing damages to your heath.
B: Where there's a will,there's a way.
P: If you don't work hard when young,you'll suffer when old.
B: Yes,I know that.
