W: Good evening, our dear audience. The guest with us today is Mr. Bush, an expert on education.Mr. Bush, would you like to say something about your experience?
M: Sure. (1)______________________________________________.It went without saying that writing meant first handwriting.Back then, handwriting was often taught as a separate subject from the fist grade right up through the sixth grade.
W: It was considered important at that time.
M: Yes, sometimes prizes were even awarded for the best handwriting. But when we move ahead a few decades into the 1980s,we see teachers and administrators and even parents telling us that teaching handwriting is a waste of time.
W: Even kids don't like practicing their handwriting.
M: With computers, they said, children can successfully manipulate the keyboard or mouse of their home computers before they can even hold a pencil.
W: (2)_________________________________________.People always have to write on many occasions.
M: We can see what the US education say about handwriting. You'll see that in many states, handwriting has been neglected in a required curriculum, especially in the later years of elementary school.
W: Really? To write neatly in elementary schools will bring students lots of benefits later.
M: In California, for example, the curriculum almost makes no mention of handwriting.Any high level of quality or neatness is simply not among the curricular objectives.
W: Well, that curricular is not complete.(3)______________________________________.
M: So at the end of the program,I would like to call for that all students think more of their handwriting.
W: Thanks for being with us this evening.
