It wasn't until I woke up that June morning at 5:00 and made my way down to the waterfront with my closest friends, that I realized why I did all this. I had gone to a boarding school in Massachusetts for four years of my life. I could have left and gone to public school at anytime. Although as tough as it was, I stuck it out.
I looked around myself and realized I had never noticed the simple beauty in the areas surrounding me. The glassy harbor made it seem as though time could be stopped forever. I could sit here, and capture the simple beauty around me, that I had passed by hundreds of times over the last four years, and I didn't notice it until now, four years later.
Everyday of my high school career I was looking forward to tomorrows, and at that moment all I could do was pray for one simple yesterday. In five hours I would be walking across a stage overlooking this harbor for the last time as a student.
There are memories we want to grasp forever, and others we want to deplete from our minds. Although every moment, or day or year that passes us by, we tend to forget it's all we have for that moment. I spent four years of high school praying to get out of it, and graduate, and when I finally did, I wish I had one more chance to make it all worthwhile.
Thank the Lord for each day, and each chance you are given. Realize that moments pass us by faster than we can contemplate. Smile, for each day is a gift, appreciate it, and notice it, because sometimes we do, and it's too late.
