Jason Derulo原名Jason Desrouleaux,于1989年9月21日在美国佛罗里达州迈阿密出生，父母皆为海地人。他改变了他原名的拼写作为自己的艺名。Derulo在他五岁的时候就开始表演并在他八岁时写了他的第一首歌《crush on you》。年轻时学习歌剧，戏剧，芭蕾。为学习艺术他进入了位于福罗里达州的迪拉德中心，毕业于在纽约的美国音乐戏剧学院。12岁时，Derulo遇见了他未来的经理弗兰克哈里斯，一个法学院的学生，这个学生同时帮助他提高了他的篮球技巧。
