There are some ways to help children to be independent. First, the child should have a chance to see the world around him individually to understand that there are various people and competitions in their lives, and learn to find his right position in the society only by individual efforts. Second, it is impossible to ask a child not to depend on parents at once. The parents may give the child enough help and space to make him feel comfortable. A child needs help from their families. How should parents help children to be independent ?
No one denies that one-child policy has contributed a lot to China’s social development in all rounds, which can be proved that the governments have no longer suffered from the heavy burden of large population to feed, nor has each family. However, most of the one-child households have derailed the normal ways of raising their pearls.
Parents today have spoiled their only child. This can be seen from their real roles: they are not his parents but servants. They are willing to do almost everything for their love heart, ranging from washing clothes to cleaning rooms, instructing homework to buying all the daily necessities. Some parents even help their child finish the homework, with an excuse of giving the child more time to enjoy himself. To them, their only sweet can not endure any sufferings they have had. Instead, he should lead to a happy life as much as possible, without any upset in his world.
Is it good for their only child’s self-development and independence? The answer is negative. Such a way of breeding the offsprings is bound to bring much harm to them. He may either fail to adapt himself to the new competitive surroundings or become a social parasite at last.
How should parents bring up their only child? There are two effective ways. First, the parents should let their child do what he should instead of helping him with everything, which is a good way to cultivate their ability to take care of himself. Then, the only child should be given more opportunities to take part in social activities, regardless of their willing or not. In that case, the child can gather more social experience to deal with certain emergencies and promote his social competition as well.
Therefore, the only child can also become social talent with their parents’ active instructions rather than blind supports.
