Meaning:

     When you go hat in hand, you are asking somebody for something, especially money, in a very polite and respectful way, which makes you seem less important.


Examples:

1. A: Do you like Lucy?
    B: No! She often goes hat in hand to her classmates.


2. A: Why don’t you ask your brother for money?
    B: There’s no way that I will go hat in hand to him.

意思:当你向别人求助,你要求某人要某物,特别是钱,如果以一种很礼貌和恭敬的方式会让你觉得没那么重要。

例子:

1、A:你喜欢Lucy吗?
    B:不,她经常向同学求助。

2、A:你为什么不问你兄弟拿钱呢?
     B:要我求助他?没门。
