Thousands of Greek workers have begun a 24-hour strike in protest of the government’s cost-cutting measures. The strike resulted in the closure of schools, courts, local and national government operations.

It also forced the cancellation of more than 400 flights at Athens International Airport. The workers are protesting Prime Minister Georgios Papandreou’s most recent deficit cutting plan.
