A musical director was having a lot of trouble with one drummer. He talked and talked and talked with the drummer, but his performance simply didn't improve.  

乐队里的鼓手一直不能使导演满意。导演一次次地和他谈啊谈，但他的表现就是没有进步。  



Finally, before the whole orchestra, he said, "When a musician just can't handle his instrument and doesn't improve when given help, they take away the instrument, and give him two sticks, and make him a drummer."  

最后，导演在整个管弦乐队前说：“当一个乐师不能很好地演奏他的乐器并且在给与帮助后仍无所改进的时候，人们就拿走他的乐器，给他两根木棍子，让他做鼓手。”  



A stage whisper was heard from the percussion section: "And if he can't handle even that, they take away one of his sticks and make him a conductor."  

这时，从打击乐队那边传来一个低低的声音：“当他连那也不能演奏好的时候，人们就再拿走他的一根木棍，让他做指挥。”
