Jane Austen was born in 1775. Her father was the priest at Steventon and her mother was a good, rather silly woman, who worried too much about their daughter’s health.(1)________________________ that came into their lives was an invitation to a party at the home of one of the richer neighbors.
Of course the young men who danced with Jane and the callers who visited her home had no idea that (2)____________________________ This was the world and these were the people she portrayed so successfully in her novels.
At the time Jane was writing, the novel was not considered a respectable form of literature and it was almost impossible for a woman to publish a book under her own name. When Sense and Sensibility finally appeared in 1811 the words” by a lady" were printed on the title page. (3)___________________
