Chinese dairy giant Yili has opened a wholly-owned production plant in Canterbury, New Zealand.

The launching ceremony of Yili Oceania Production Base is held in New Zealand on November 25, 2014.


The Oceania Dairy factory comes with an investment of 185 million US dollars.

Oceania Dairy was a New Zealand company before it was acquired by Yili in April last year.

The plant marks Yili's first major offshore investment and is tasked with supplying the Chinese market with milk products that meet New Zealand food safety standards.

Yili, the world's 10th largest dairy producer says the company intends to triple investment in Oceania Dairy in the next five years.
