Pakistani officials say American airstrikes have killed three suspected militants in Pakistan’s South Waziristan area. The officials say the airstrikes happened Friday in the tribal area near the border with Afghanistan. American officials do not publicly admit to using the pilotless airplanes called drones in air strikes in Pakistan. But the officials have privately confirmed their existence to news operations. Pakistani leaders condemned the strikes as a violation of the country’s right to govern itself.

Thousands of protesters in Syria have renewed their calls for President Bashar al-Assad to leave office. Activists say anti-government demonstrations took place across Syria after new prayers on Friday. Earlier in the day, Syrian officials said seven soldiers and police workers were killed.
